YABATECH Acquires Software for Detecting Plagiarism

The Governing Council of the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) said that it has acquired a top-notch security software capable of detecting any act of plagiarism (copy and paste) in the write-ups submitted by students or it’s lecturers.

Mr Lateef Fagbemi, the chairman of the governing council of the college made this announcement on Wednesday at the 11th International Science, Technology, Education, Arts, Management and Social sciences (iSTEAMS) conference in Lagos state, Nigeria.

Mr Fagbemi stated that the software will detect any form of plagiarism and copyright.

With this technology, plagiarised assignments, project works, and textbooks will be reduced to a greater extent.

Fagbemi also encouraged other institutions to take the right steps to combat plagiarism.

“Relevant software must be acquired by our institutions to detect any possible case of plagiarism and be able to nip it in the bud,’’ he said.

He also said that Plagiarism was not only present in higher institutions in Nigeria, it is also existing songs, works of famous writers, philosophers, filmmakers, public workers amongst others.

Fagbemi encouraged the government to set up legislative measures to fight the problem of plagiarism in the country.

Mr. Obafemi Omokungbe, Rector, Yaba College of Technology who was present at the event commended the iSTEAMS for organising the conference and encouraged participants to be active in all sessions.
