WAEC Releases 2018 May/June SSCE Results

The West African Examination council (WAEC) has released the results of candidates that wrote the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination earlier this year. The council announced that only 49.98 percents of candidates scored credit passes and above in five subjects which include English and Mathematics.

During the announcement of the result release, Mr Olu Adenipekun stated that the 49.98 percentage represent a total of 786,016 students that applied for the examination.

He said that there was a drop in performance as the students performed poorly when compared with previous years – 2016 and 2017.

Statistics shows that a total of 1,578,846 candidates from 17,886 recognized secondary schools across the country applied for the WAEC SSCE exam. Out of the total numbers of applicants, 1,572,396 students wrote the exam.

1,470,338 candidates which represent 93.51 percent have their results released. W.A.E.C has promised to release the W.A.E.C S.S.C.E original results 90 days from today.

A total of 102,058 candidates results are still being processed due to errors made by the candidate either during the registration or examination; this number represents 6.49 percent of the total candidates.

The HNO promised that results with errors were being corrected by the council and will be released consequently.

He also said that 1,213,244 candidates obtained credits and above in a minimum of any five subjects, with or without English Language and or Mathematics.

The official also stated that 858,424 candidates  obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects including English Language but without Mathematics.

Mr Adenipekun added that 1,328 candidates with disabilities applied. Out of this number, 251 candidates were visually challenged, 783 candidates with impaired hearing, 123 had low vision, and 88 were spastic cum mentally challenged.
