Federal Government Appoints Dr Omokungbe as YABATECH Rector
The Federal Government of Nigeria on Tuesday announced Engineer Obafemi Owoseni Omokungbe as the new rector of Yaba College of Technology.
Mr Omokungbe succeded Mrs Margaret Kudirat Ladipo after her tenure expired on December 10, 2017. Immediately Mr Kudirat’s tenure elapsed, the college appointed Dr Taiwo Oyelola as an acting rector pending when a substantive rector would be appointed.
Dr Obafemi Omokungbe is the first Alumnus of the College to be appointed the position of a Rector.
Speaking at an Event, Chairman of the YABATECH Governing council, Prince Lateef Fagbemi said Record is made today, Omokungbe has been approved by the Minister for Education and the Presidency.
“The Governing Council had adopted the best to get the best and God has given us the best. Indeed, it is all that is well, that ends well. I must say, it is easier to get to the top of the ladder but it requires ten times the initial effort to sustain yourself at the top. That means, as you have come out in large number to solidarize with the new Rector, you must keep praying for him to succeed.”
He went ahead to salute the two runner ups Mr Omobayo Raheem and Mr Aledare Kayode whose names were also submitted to the presidency for approval.
Brief History
Dr Omokungbe joined YABATECH in 1993 as a level 3 lecturer. He rose through the ranks to become a chief lecturer in the civil engineering department of the college in 2009.
He was the Head of Department (H.O.D) for Civil Engineering from 2007-2009. Within this period, he wrote many scholarly articles and used his knowledge to impact various structural development programmes in the College.
